Humane Society and Nancy Silberkleit raise awareness for anti-bullying

At the 5th Annual Toast to the Humane Society of New York, held in March, I joined prominent journalists, fashion designers, government officials and ‘wall streeters’ to raise awareness for animals that are abused and abandoned. Many of the guests enjoyed the evening with their cuddly pets and focused efforts on placing abused and abandoned animals. The evening was a success, as all of the dogs available for adoption found homes.

Often, it’s the same bullies, that bully animals and the people around them. There is a natural tie-in to build awareness for anti-bullying in schools AND with animals. The voices for anti-bullying speak to protect all humans AND animals from feeling threatened, uncomfortable or scared from someone trying to intimidate or control you.

Nancy Silberkleit, Co-CEO of Archie Comic Publications, and advocate for anti-bullying, is using her educational training and experience to inspire self-confidence and strength in children of all ages. Her efforts focus on creating an inspired community while also furthering her philanthropic reach. In 2012, Silberkleit created Rise Above Social Issues Foundation to address challenging issues such as bullying, obesity, literacy. The Foundation is developing a series of educational comic books that focus on these issues and encourage literacy and confidence so that youth can become positive influences on their peers. She shares her words of inspiration with today’s youth: “Never let anyone define who they want you to be. You know who you are, be pro-active in your life”.
